Surviving Junior Year

In the beginning of our junior year, we all try to be prepared, accepting and happy. We’re still trying to figure out who we are as a person and honestly it’s not easy. Being prepared is a process. Whether it is to be prepare for a test, a sport or your lunch. Acceptance is one of the foremost important aspects of our lives. Whether we learn to accept ourselves in high school or college or even when we start working. Junior year always seems to be the hardest year whether it is in high school or college. As we ponder about the future of our life, we mostly think about it in junior year. Either scholarships and opportunities are coming before we even have the feel for it. Freshman and sophomore year, everyone is still adjusting and finding their voice, while senior year everyone is just ready to move onto the next chapter. Usually, freshmans and sophomores don’t worry about colleges or getting enough credits, not until they reach their junior year. The reason for that is because some upperclassman advice to enjoy high school, join clubs and don’t stress.

Junior year though, that’s when it seems like everyone is in a different place in their lives while still under the umbrella of being a junior. This is typically the year that everyone starts looking and beginning internships and really getting a feel for life after high school. For some people, that’s a hard pill to swallow. While for others, everything they’ve ever dreamed of is finally falling into place. At this point, many feel that for the first time they aren’t on the same page as some of their best friends and that is okay. Sometimes, you have to think about the future where everything you hoped would be might change due to certain circumstances. Losing a friend is not the end of the world. As you move to the real world, it wouldn’t hurt to find a new friend. Adulthood creeps up on you. The real world creeps up on you. The real world can be terrifying. We all adjust differently, too. As long as you remember to keep your head up and your eye on the prize (that lovely and very expensive piece of paper you will be receiving in just four semesters) you will be okay. Junior year is supposed to be crazy. It is sort of like the last ditch effort to ensure you will have the future you always dreamed of. Eventually you and your friends will be on the same playing field again, and you will be so proud of yourself for trudging through all the trials and tribulations of being a junior in college. So next time when you’re in your room fretting because you feel like you’re doing this whole college thing for nothing, take some deep breaths and remember that it’s not all for nothing when you’re destined to be something.
